Embedded simulation on a multiprocessor job scheduling system with inspection

چکیده
This paper first develops architecture for a multiprocessor job scheduling system with an embedded simulation technique. The architecture provides a shell for applications that are characterized by two scheduling policies, a heuristic algorithm policy and a First-In-First-Out (FIFO) policy. These policies are implemented in the simulation model by using the embedded technique. The paper evaluates these two policies using the queue length, waiting time and flow time as the criteria to compare the performance of these two scheduling policies. Next we designed two simulation situations using two different real world applications. The purpose is to examine the performances of multiprocessor systems with and without inspection operations and two different scheduling policies. The two applications, berth allocation for the container terminal operations and production scheduling arrangement in an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) power supply factory, are studied. The final results show that a proper scheduling policy will perform better than the traditional FIFO approach for a multiprocessor system. Our study also provides guidelines on balancing a system with the addition of a final inspection activity. 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

A Multiprocessor System with Non-Preemptive Earliest-Deadline-First Scheduling Policy: A Performability Study
This paper introduces an analytical method for approximating the performability of a firm realtime system modeled by a multi-server queue. The service discipline in the queue is earliestdeadline- first (EDF), which is an optimal scheduling algorithm. Real-time jobs with exponentially distributed relative deadlines arrive according to a Poisson process. All jobs have deadlines until the end of s...
متن کاملCapturing urgency and parallelism using quasi-deadlines for real-time multiprocessor scheduling
Recent trends toward multi-core architectures in real-time embedded systems pose challenges in designing efficient real-time multiprocessor scheduling algorithms. We believe that it is important to take into consideration both timing constraints of tasks (urgency) and parallelism restrictions of multiprocessor platforms (parallelism) together when designing scheduling algorithms. Motivated by t...

متن کاملSimulated Performance Analysis of Multiprocessor Dynamic Space-Sharing Scheduling policy
Multiprocessor systems are the wave of the future rightly said because they offer tremendous potential to solve inherently parallel and complex computation intensive applications. In order to exploit the full potential of such computing systems, job scheduling or processor allocation (both are considered synonyms here) decisions plays a great role. Such scheduling decisions involves determining...
